I have studied and practiced ceramics for more than 30 years. What started as a 'for fun' class became an obsession and eventually a career. I've had the chance to study with amazing masters, and to show and sell my work in some pretty cool venues. My hope is that some of these experience will help you on your journey whether this is your first step, or one of many.

Vision
The first thought of mindfulness in pottery occurred to me at a ceramics residency in a small pottery town; Jingdezhen, China. There, you spend a whole day walking dusty streets, working hard to take a personal artistic vision and literally create it out of dirt and fire. At the end of these days, everyone involved gathers around huge round tables for 20 people or so laden with gorgeous dishes of local vegetables and fish and spicy peppers and tofu to commune together. But, first, you stand in line to pick your bowl and mug. They’re stacked in a jumbled pile and and are all different and which one you chose depends on how it feels in your hand. You will bring the bowls to your mouth and tip and slurp and it’s delicious and intimate and which bowl you choose makes a difference. You pick with intention. Your seat choice is intentional. Refueling your body for the next day is important. The meal is an experience in mindfulness, and it is one to savor.
We don’t serve the same way here in Texas, but neither do we eat in the same formal ways that our Grandmothers did. At Savor, we try to observe new practices and traditions so that we can be creative about new and fun ways to use ceramics. The technical skill and level of mastery in a mug you make for yourself, or as a gift, truly won’t matter- I guarantee it will make the meal taste better.
Our mission at Savor Ceramics is to bring that kind of intentionality to your experience. Ceramics is an art based in the ability to do a type of craft. We aim to teach you the craft, so that you can bring your own artistic vision to life.
